  • LAW DAY (Luncheon) – We are pleased to have Judge Ross L. Bilbrey of the Florida First District Court of Appeal speak at this year’s Law Day. The theme this year is: The 14th Amendment: Transforming American Democracy. Judge Bilbrey has a distinguished legal career on the bench and off. This year’s Law Day Luncheon will be held onApril 28, 2017 at noon at the Ramada Plaza Beach Resort – Ambassador Room (1st Floor), 1500 Miracle Strip Pkwy SE, Fort Walton Beach, FL 32548. The cost to attend will be $30 per person ($25 for Govt. employees). Spouses and staff are welcome. Please RSVP no later than April 21, 2017, by sending an email to levin@brackenlawpa.com.

  • LAW DAY (Judicial Reception) –  The Law Day Judicial Reception will take place on April 27, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. and will be held at the Regatta Bay Clubhouse at Regatta Bay Golf and Yacht Club located at 465 Regatta Bay Blvd, Destin, FL 32541. The cost to attend is $25 per person (spouses and staff welcome). Please RSVP no later than April 21, 2017, by sending an email tolevin@brackenlawpa.com.

  • LIBERTY BELL AWARD– The Liberty Bell Award is given each year by local bar associations in conjunction with Law Day to honor outstanding citizens within the local community.  The award recognizes outstanding service performed by a non-lawyer citizen who has given his or her time and energy to strengthen the effectiveness of the American system of freedom under law, in keeping with the spirit of our Constitution. Such service may include activities which promote a better understanding of our form of government, especially the Bill of Rights; encourage greater respect for the law in the courts; educate people in the contrast between totalitarianism and freedom under law; or, stimulate the deeper sense of individual responsibility to the end that citizens recognize their duties as well as their rights. If you know of someone who you feel embodies the foregoing, please submit a nomination tojohnreed@dowdlawfirm.com no later than 5:00 p.m. CST on April 21, 2017.
  • DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD– The Recognition of Service Award is given out periodically to honor an individual or organization for their distinguished and dedicated service to the local legal community and community at large.   • OBA BOARD OF DIRECTORS NOMINATIONS (Treasurer) – The OBA is accepting nominations for the position of Treasurer. Send nominations to johnreed@dowdlawfirm.com. Nominations are due no later than 5:00 p.m. CST on April 21, 2017. Voting will take place at the June 14, 2017 meeting.
  • CLE CRUISE – The First Judicial Bench & Bar Professionalism Committee is hosting a CLE cruise on the Carnival Cruise ship “Fantasy” on Veteran’s Day Weekend (November 9, 2017 – November 13, 2017). Please click here for more information regarding rates and deadlines to attend the cruise.

“Legal Services of North Florida is proud to host our own Pro Bono Celebration to recognize the outstanding contributions made by attorneys of the First Judicial Circuit. This special evening will feature a special keynote presentation from the 2017-18 President of The Florida Bar, Michael J. Higer.”
